BELTS
The first thing I learned to make as a leathercrafter was a belt. This involved stamping a design onto a belt strip (a 1 1/2 inch piece of leather). I still have the belt today and it looks as fresh as the day I made it.

Another way of making the belts (again from 1 1/2 inch blanks) is to carve a pattern. This involves tracing a pattern onto tracing paper, and then using a blunt ended scribe to press the pattern into the leather. The pattern is then carved using a swivel knife and tooled using various stamps to produce a very tactile pattern in the belt.

BAGS
As I've said before, the second thing I made was a handbag for my mum (she'd just about snapped the handles on all her others). I bough a pattern from Tandy Leathercraft and after asking Ginger at Guest Leathercraft
got on with the process of making it. Mums had it well over a year now, and the handle is still as solid as the day it was made!
